The Top 5 percent

Remember a few weeks ago when I posted that article about how 95% of people have pre-marital sex? (if not, here is a link) Well, the Village Voice has an interesting article about chastity in the 21st century and gives a glimpse of what its like to be post-teenage and obstinate. Worth a read, if you sympathise empathise with the soldiers of Diana. (we don’t need your sympathy, sluts)

Also, Jane magazine has a blog where some girl called Sarah writes “The Virgin Chronicles”. Essentially the Anti-Sex in the City. I think I’ll write to her and see if she wants to come on twentyhood.

Welcome Back

Here is a little gem about the phenomenon of children moving home after college. Are they an economic burden on their parents? Is this the sign of a dangerous social shift? Find out.

Article HereĀ

By the way, they are calling it “adultolescence”. Personally, I think twentyhood is much catchier. For the record, the only person I know who didn’t return home after earning the bachelor’s is Jay, who landed squarely on my couch for a period after graduation.

Wearing white?

New research has uncovered that 95% of people, both men and women, have pre-marital sex. This comes in direct contrast to the years of government-funded research which has seeped into the common knowledge. Also interested to note is that according to the study, the percentages have remained steady for generations. Something to share with your grandparents over Christmas dinner.

Read the article here.

Ok, so you’re probably asking “what’s with all the sex talk”. Well, let’s be honest, twenty-somethings are horny and attractive and have nothing better to do. At least 95% of them.

Personally, I’d like to see some research done on the other 5% of people. Or as I like to call them, the “Top 5%”. That’s where societies answers are sure to be found.

Questions Couples Should Ask

Questions Couples Should Ask (Or Wish They Had) Before Marrying

The New York Times has compiled an interesting, yet relevant, list of things to ask your potential life-mate. I’d say this is a good idea for any of us looking to tie the proverbial knot.

For example:

4) Have we fully disclosed our health histories, both physical and mental?

Translation: “please don’t tell me you take pills to avoid going crazy” or “your momma is fat, does that mean you will be too?”

Like I said, important questions to ask. Maybe we’ll talk about this in our upcoming dating episode. Who knows when that will be.

(maybe this is why I’m single.)

Why Teens Do Stupid Things

Thank god that’s over. Teenagehood, that is. Of course, when we’re in our 30s, we’ll probably say the same things about twenty-somethings.

Here is scientific proof about why teens do stupid shit. Have a read. Not to spoil the article, but the answer, as you might guess, is ‘their brains’.

Pinch Those Pennies

Yet another interesting article on the subject of money. This time, something that we young professionals sometimes neglect to scrutinize – taxes. In short, it’s not what you make, but what you keep.

Unlike most of the articles I come across, this one actually has numerical examples. Give it a read, call me out.

How to Keep More of What You Make

The Biggest Gamble of Your Life (Is College Worth It?)

Came across a great article today about the ever-frantic economics of a University education. Lots of statistics and figures to mull over. Worth a read when you have a minute.

In 2005, young people (ages 18-25) in the US gambled $67 billion. Not in Vegas or online poker rooms, but on a betterment program called college. Their hope is that the monies they are spending will allow them to earn more money over their lifetime. Many are paying for this wager by amassing a mountain of debt that will take years to pay off. Is it a good wager? …
